Vaka Eiva Round Rarotonga Race

The Grizzlies Rarotonga crew took out first place in the Masters Vaka Eiva Round Rarotonga Race Friday (8th overall).

In large seas the course was changed to give protection from the 4 metre swells but was still run over the full 36k distance. Overall winner was Team Hawaii but the Grizzlies were in a battle for first Masters with Team Forbes from the Gold Coast for virtually the full 36 k's.

Winning the masters division in a time of 3.05.13 just ahead of Gold Coast who finished on 3.05 .49 with a combination crew from Mana Menz/Cook Island called Kai Ngaru in 3rd with 3.08.22.

The crew:  Tim, Marty Helleur, Pistol, Brian Wilson, Danny, Ben, Rodney, Nick and Marty Fox, paddled hard right through the race with a few stand out steering legs plus some surprisingly good changes throughout the race being the difference that gave us the 36 second  edge.

After finishing 3rd in the sprints earlier in the regatta the Grizzlies bring home a couple of medals plus the trophy for Vaka Eiva masters champions.

Go the Grizzlies.
