In an awesome display of power the Gold’s, reigning NZ SMM champions in the 1000 m event crushed Grizzlie White today on Lake Pupuke to take out the 2k series 4 to nil.

Fronting up in 1 & 2 Mike “Elvis” Dolan and “Darling” Devereux Daryl  (the Energiser twins) laid up the Golds winning style, the Brute power and finesse of Ken “Gorilla” Gilbert, Robert “the Bruce’ and Charlie “Chopper” Symons were too much for the Whites. Ace steersman Rodney “Ace”Evans commented that it was all in a days work and loved the opportunity to do the full course including all the bouy turns.

The Whites were frankly disappointing! “Tiny Tim” Bruce, taking a lead from Sir Clive Woodward noted that they had more power but it was not seen today . Pete “Preacher” Lord stroked well but there was no real cohesion shown by the Whites behind him today. Obviously missing Nick “Rigger” Lowes ( maybe should be renamed “NoShow Lowes?) their usual No 2 seat, Graeme “ Not on Your “ Ne ll performed strongly but the power men, Tiny Tim and Johan”Rangi Swanepoel really had nothing to answer the questions posed by the  Gold hardmen today.

Stevie “Wonder” Muir put in a strong paddle and looked all class and “Pistol” Pete Houghton ( aka Smeagol) steered his usual inventive course. obviously hampered by the lack of 3 metre waves)

Generously offered a boat length lead in the final race by Chopper Symons, “Not on your Nellie” was heard to rudely utter the coital imperative and this served only to rattle his own team who broke at the 1k mark and finished a dismal last again in the final  race of the day. He would do well to heed the old adage of never looking a gift horse in the mouth!

Noticeably absent from racing were the irregular F Troop, notwithstanding the “ring ins” available

Mike “Gunner’ Mann, Eddie “Lay Down” Sally, Kingi “Junior” Gilbert and Francis “Bruiser” Ah Wong did not rise to the challenge and floated in their one and two mans. Inspirational steerer Dave “Croaky” Pritchard and the F troop regulars, Tim “ Lifejacket” Parris Piper, Ken “ Spoon’ Weatherburn and Marty “Stroker” Fox were all missing (again!). The leadership was just not there to put together their usual perforformance and this crew now has a long journey in front of them to get into the game!
